Training should start as soon as you bring your dog home, whether it is a puppy or an adult dog. Dogs need to know the ground rules of your household and the sooner you start training them what these rules are, the happier you both will be. This is the time to decide what behavior will be allowed when the dog is a mature adult and start training those behaviors now. It is much easier to train proper behavior when a dog is young than to have to fix problems later. There are many things you can teach your dog right away such as crate training, getting used to a leash and collar, and whether they will be allowed on the furniture or not. We do not start puppies in group classes until they are 12 weeks old. This is for their protection, to allow their immune systems to become strong enough to ward off any disease they may encounter in a group situation. Unvaccinated puppies are very suseptable to many diseases. |
